About The Beer
Country: Australia
Brewery: Balter Brewing Company
Style: Pale Ale
Format: 375ml Can
ABV: 5.8%
The unassumingly-named Modern Pale Ale has the crispness of the Aussie XPA style, yet experiments with plenty of ingredients from outside of Australia: pale malts from Britain, specialty malts from Germany, and hops from America (Loral, Citra, Dynaboost Simcoe, Cryo Mosaic, HBC630) and New Zealand (Motueka). A tropical storm of sweet summer fruits – namely watermelon and pineapple – come together with a splash of deep resin, an almost savoury herbaceousness and a gentle earthy bitterness.
WHAT THE CAN SAYS
Americans and Aussies have a great history of inspiring each others’ cultures. They gave us West Coast IPAs and hot wings.
We gave them pub rock and croc-teeth hats.
They’ve recently fallen in love with our XPA as well. To see how pale ales might evolve even further, Balter has teamed up with California’s iconic Firestone Walker for this collaborative Modern Pale Ale. ??
Your Mouth Holiday to an alternative flavour future. As our old mate Mick might say: “that’s not a pale ale, this is a pale ale”.
WHAT THE BREWER SAYS
An international grain bill with Aussie and British pale malts plus a touch of German specialty malts give this light gold stunner its gorgeous colour and bright vibrant clarity.
Hopped in the kettle with hand selected Motueka, Loral, Citra while a dose of Dynaboost Simcoe dials in precise bittering and definition.
Double dry hopped with Loral, Cryo Mosaic and a big whack of HBC630 all giving this warm weather wonder an invigorating mix of watermelon juice, pink lemonade and raw pineapple aromas with flavours that literally levitate across the palate. A tickle of dank, herbal resin notes to pull it all together into a crisp, snappy finish. Your summer holiday in a glass.
