About The Beer
Country: Belgium
Brewery: De Struise Brouwers
Style: Gruit
Format: 375ml Bottle
ABV: 6%
This beer was aged in Bordeaux wine barrels and is inspired by the medieval gruut beer where the Lords of Gruuthuse held the monopoly on the sale of the gruut, namely a mixture of different spices. The gruutrecht was granted in 1200 by Count Boudewijn IX to the Lords of Gruuthuse, who were later also allowed to levy tax on the beer itself. This right gave the Lords of Gruuthuse wealth, status and influence.
