Old school meets new school in this fresh approach to the classic IPA. At 50 IBU's and 6.7% ABV, Breaking Bud features the restrained bitterness and alcohol of a classic IPA with newer tropical fruit hop flavours and aromas of Mosaic. Also in the hop mix are Simcoe and Columbus, Tomahawk, and Zeus (CTZ), creating layers of mango, passion fruit, pine and dank. A malt bill with a pinch of crystal malt and a hefty dose of flaked wheat keeps the beer crisp while adding flavour complexity. Cheers to the past, present and future!

High potential wish it had more flavor clarity
After my first smell I think I understand what the descriptor 'dank' is supposed to mean. It smells like a few different IPA's Ive had. This brewery put good descriptors on the side of their beer so that's a plus already. This beer was canned in June so I suppose it's not bad but not great either. On first taste it's odd. This is supposed to be a west coast style. It is lacking in carbonation which I find strange. Then it had a definite piney flavour at the front and then fades. For a very flavourful IPA in description is quite weak. Im trying not to make it sound bad though just expected more. It's very refreshing like water with some hops, a touch of malt and then a slight hoppy fruit aftertaste that lingers. Very odd. Maybe if I had this fresh then it would be more carbonated and flavourful but it's just subdued. This subdued flavour is definitely the word pleasant but it leaves you just sitting and searching. May need to be more fresher to date of canning and may need to warm up.
Honestly it's like a clean beer with a touch of malt at the front and a blend of tropical hops at the end that's restrained (totally not taken from the can). Fair dinkum like a 6/10. For a West Coast style it's not very punchy smack in the face with hops. Going to be hard to rate this beer.
Alrighty... as it warms up the hops are more aromatic and flavourful on the taste. It's good because they are not overly bitter either. Summing up this is a tame IPA which is a shame but it aint half pleasant.
